Right as we were finishing up the bridal party formal pictures, we noticed some clouds rolling in, and every now and then, I'd feel a raindrop. Actually, if you look at the bridal party photos from the last post, you can actually see a few spots on the girls' dresses from raindrops.
I was really hoping that it would just be a few random raindrops and that it wouldn't start down-pouring. But D and I went down into the garden to take some pictures of just the two of us, and almost as soon as we got down there, the rain started getting harder, until it was so bad that our photographer ran under a tree to protect his camera from the rain, and D pulled out an umbrella and we ran back into the venue to take cover.
They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? Well, I guess between the rain and the bird poop, we're going to have the best and luckiest marriage ever!
I couldn't believe it. I was so disappointed that it had started raining just when we were starting to take pictures of just the two of us. And because of that, we were really limited as to where we could go to take pictures. Cocktail hour was still going strong, and people were mingling throughout both the ceremony and reception spaces, which gave us limited space, and an audience, which was something I was hoping to avoid. And not only that, but we had everything planned out so that we could get all our pictures in while it was still light out, and this then meant that by the time the rain stopped, it would be too dark.
After getting back inside and drying off with paper towels, our photographers scoped out some parts of the venue with good lighting and got to work, snapping away. And they did a fabulous job making up for the lost time and space. These pictures came out great!
I love that last shot of my shoes. Also, if you look closely, you can see how shiny our hair is from the rain, and how wet D's suit jacket got, especially on the shoulders. I guess that will always be a reminder of how it rained on our wedding day.
At this point, the cocktail hour was wrapping up, and everyone was finding their seats in the reception space, so we only had a little longer to go until our introduction and first dance. But, with the rain still coming down, our photographers had a brilliant idea. And so one photographer stood outside with a light, and the other was inside the venue. We stood facing each other in the doorway, and they snapped away, taking shot after shot of the rain falling behind us.
And those are our absolute favorite photos from the day! They came out incredibly, and are breathtaking, surprisingly, thanks to the rain. We've gotten so many compliments on these photos from our friends and family, and we couldn't be happier, despite being rained out of the garden!
Did the weather throw a wrench in your wedding plans? What did you do to get past it? Did the weather end up helping your wedding plans?
Wow, those are some of the prettiest wedding photos I have ever seen! That last one is ahhhh maaaazing! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie! Although we weren't able to get as many pictures as we had hoped, these are still some of our favorites.
